17 weeks

June 26, 2012
how far along: 17 weeks
Madelyn’s size: Around 5.1 inches, 5.9 ounces, about the size of an onion
weight gain: 0 pounds for the second week in a row, 8 pounds total
maternity clothes: Do I have to answer this question?...Still no *hangs head in shame*
stretch marks: Not yet
sleep: Sleeping well, although it's getting harder to get comfortable.  I find myself adjusting my position much more often throughout the night
best moment this week: Most of the nursery stuff has come in, so seeing everything come together has been really exciting!  Also, a few nights ago, I thought I might, possibly be feeling some movement.  When I told David, he came over and talked and sang to Madelyn to try to get her to move more.  It was terribly sweet!
food cravings: Nothing in particular, just more sweets than usual
symptoms: feeling fairly asymptomatic at the moment.  I've had relatively more energy than normal, but I still feel much more exhausted at he end of the day
gender: Girl!
belly button in or out: In
movement: As I mentioned above, I've thought that I might be feeling something, off-and-on (when I'm lying really still), but it's so faint, I just haven't been sure.  I'm hoping that it's the real thing, and soon it will be strong enough for me to know for sure!
*A friend of mine, who is exactly one week ahead of me, said that she has been feeling some sensations for about a week now, and felt her first, full-fledged "somersault" last night...I'm hoping I fall close behind!
what I miss:  Nothing at the moment

what I'm looking forward to: Feeling Miss Madelyn move for certain, and continuing to decorate her room!

It's a...

GIRL!!!

Her name is Madelyn Elise, and we are looking forward to meeting her in December!

On Thursday, we had our ultrasound, at 15 weeks 2 days, to determine if Baby Lane was a boy or a girl.  Let's just say, she was being very modest and keeping her legs crossed where we couldn't see what we needed to see.  After what seemed like forever, and lots of jiggling of my belly by the ultrasound tech to get her to change position, we were finally able to get this shot.  It's looking up at her from beneath.  That is her little booty and her feet...As you can see, there isn't anything between those sweet, little legs of hers!  Immediately after the sonographer told us it was a girl, David asked her how certain she was.   She said that she was 95% sure, and that she would double check again next time, but she didn't expect anything to change.

I haven't had a preference, and unlike just about everyone else, I haven't began to guess what sex I thought the baby might be.  That was until about a week ago, when I had a dream that the baby was here, and she was a girl!  I wondered if it might mean something, and now I really do believe that it was a little bit of a premonition.

In the brief moments after the tech told us she was a girl, I was overcome with this strong sense of responsibility.  Raising a child, boy or girl, is a tough job, but to me, raising a daughter to be a lady, especially in our culture today, seems like a daunting task!  I believe we are up for the challenge, but know we are going to have to rely heavily on the Holy Spirit to guide us along the way.

Sweet Madelyn Elise

Daddy's Maddie

Today we went to the flea market and bought Madelyn's first piece of furniture for her room.  It is a beautiful, vintage dresser.  I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it!

15 weeks

June 12, 2012
how far along: 15 weeks
Baby Lane’s size: around 4 in. and 2.5 oz… about the size of a navel orange

weight gain: 1 lb. this week, 8 lbs. total

maternity clothes: Not yet, but it is seriously about to become a necessity...I wore my largest pair of non-athletic shorts last week, thinking they would be loose, and they JUST fit.  Even the one pair of jeans that I've been able to wear have become snug...maternity clothes, here I come!

stretch marks: No, and I got a couple different stretch mark creams last week.  I'm hoping being proactive will help me avoid getting them later on! *fingers crossed*

sleep: Pretty good, I guess
best moment this week: *shrugs*
food cravings: Still lovin' the pizza/bagel bites, but my sweet tooth is also starting to kick in a bit
symptoms: fatigue, moodiness (I was an emotional wreck yesterday...crying for no reason and all that jazz), nausea (occasional), headaches...Overall, I'm feeling MUCH better than I have been the past couple weeks....I hope that means I'm beginning the good second trimester phase!
gender: We should find out in a matter of days!  Oh my goodness!
belly button in or out: In
movement: Everything I've read says the norm is 16-20 weeks (although I know plenty of women who haven't felt movement until later)...I'm really hoping I'll feel Baby move in the next week or so!
what I miss: Energy/feeling like my old self
what I'm looking forward to: Finding out if we're having a Baby Boy Lane or a Baby Girl Lane...Obviously!  Buying baby stuff and decorating the nursery...as soon as we find out the sex!  And feeling Baby Lane move for the first time, hopefully in the next few weeks!

I'm kicking the habit

In other news, I have decided to stop drinking coffee every day.  I was already limiting myself to one small cup a day and no other caffeinated drinks throughout the day.  David convinced me to quit and save Baby Lane from having to go through caffeine withdrawals after he's born.  I had planned to ween myself off gradually, starting an every other day schedule.  Day 1 was so horrible.  I had the worst headache and slept almost the entire day.  After that, I decided I wanted to get this over with as quickly as possible and not prolong it.  The headaches have been unbearable, and I only THOUGHT I was fatigued before!  I am glad that Baby Lane won't have to deal with this after he gets here.

First Trimester Recap

June 1, 2012

Wow!  It's hard to believe we've already made it through the first trimester of the pregnancy and are beginning the second trimester.  That means we're already 1/3 of the way through, and that much closer to meeting Baby Lane!  David says the baby can't come soon enough!  He's already ready for this pregnancy to be over.  He halfway jokes that we should adopt the next one.  :)  I don't think I've been all that terrible, and honestly I feel bad whenever I complain, because I know it could be so much worse.  Most of the time, I just have a feeling of general malaise, usually accompanied my fatigue, lethargy, nausea, and most recently, headaches.  I keep reading that comparatively speaking, the 2nd trimester is much easier.  I'm definitely looking forward to hopefully feeling more like my old self, and having more energy to get things accomplished and do things that I enjoy.
Here is a little summary of the major moments of the first trimester:

  • March 27, 2012- David and I found out we were going to be parents at exactly 4 weeks (2 weeks after conception)
  • March 27-March 30- We shared the news with our close friends and family members
  • April 20, 2012- We had our first OB appointment and saw Baby Lane for the first time.  We also announced our pregnancy publicly on Facebook.
  • May 18 2012- We heard Baby Lane's heartbeat for the first time and saw Baby lane move around on our second ultrasound.
Since finding out we were expecting life has been pretty hectic...from moving out of our old house 2 days after finding out I was pregnant, to finding a new place and moving into our new home in another state less than a month ago.  I'm looking forward to not only the pregnancy getting easier this trimester, but also life settling down a bit, so I can savor the moments more.
Some things I am anticipating the most for the second trimester:

  • Finding out if Baby Lane is a boy or a girl
  • Beginning to decorate the nursery and shopping for baby stuff
  • Feeling Baby Lane move
