21 weeks

July 24, 2012
how far along? 21 weeks
Madelyn’s size: around 10.5 inches, 12.7 ounces… about the size of a pomegranate
weight gain: two pounds this week, 14 pounds total
maternity clothes: Yes.  I switch between non-maternity dresses, athletic clothing (stretched to the max), and maternity clothes...Also, my sweet MIL sent me 3 new maternity dresses in the mail last week! :)
stretch marks: None
sleep: Still finding it very difficult to find a comfortable sleeping position.
best moment this week: David brought home present on Sunday.  I thought it was for Madelyn, but it was for me!  It was a DSLR camera!  I've been wanting one for years, and he knew that I especially wanted one to take pictures of Madelyn once she is born!
food cravings: Too much food (see above where I gained 2 lbs. this week)
symptoms:  Fatigue has been better the past few day! :)  My emotions on the other hand have been CRAAAZY!  (I full-out cried when I opened my camera.  It was to the point where David said it seemed more like a sad cry than a happy cry!)
gender: Precious, baby girl!
belly button in or out: In, but not as deep.
movement: Yes, tons!  Some mornings she wakes me up moving!  Yesterday morning, about 4 am, Charlie woke me up from a nightmare, and I couldn't fall back asleep, and obviously neither could Madelyn, so we both stayed up together :)  Also, Tuesday (24th) night, I could actually see some of her movements!
what I miss:  Sleeping comfortably through the night.
what I'm looking forward to: My mom, aka Nanna, and my Nana have both informed me that they have goodies for Madelyn, next time I visit.  I can't wait to see what they bought her!  Also, David's mom, aka Gigi, is already planning our shower, so I'm really excited about that too!

Whoa-oh, we're half way there: 20 weeks down, 20 more to go!

July 17, 2012
how far along? 20 weeks...Half Way!!!
Madelyn’s size: around 6.5 inches, 10.6 ounces (the sonographer said she was 10 oz. on Thursday)… about the size of a banana.
weight gain: one pound this week, 12 pounds total
maternity clothes: Yes!
stretch marks: None
sleep: About the same as last week...harder to get and stay comfortable, and also having to get up to go to the bathroom most nights.
best moment this week: So many great moments this week...Seeing Madelyn again, and confirming 100% that she is in fact a girl; my mom, aka Nanna, and Marissa Grace feeling Madelyn move; and getting all the wonderful, hand-me-down, baby goodies.
food cravings: Snack food
symptoms: Fatigue, fatigue, fatigue...I am so tired!  Some round ligament pain.
gender: Precious, baby girl!
belly button in or out: Its definitely still in, but it's been really sore, and it doesn't seem to be as deep as it used to be, so I think it must be in the process of trying to poke out
movement: Yes!
what I miss:  Sleeping comfortably through the night and having energy!
what I'm looking forward to: Just enjoying this second half of pregnancy as much as possible.

Goodies for Madelyn

This weekend we were back in Bama, visiting our families.  While we were there, my mom, aka Nanna, gave me a bunch of hand-me-down stuff for Madelyn, from when my nieces and nephews were babies.  I'm so excited to already have so many nice things for when Madelyn arrives!

Lots of goodies!

Sweet, little gowns

Bunting

Sweet, little dresses

More sweet, little dresses

Beautiful cape with coordinating headband, and precious hooded cardigan

burp cloths

More adorable clothes

cute socks

I bought this dress about 12 years ago for my oldest niece, Skylar, and both she and Marissa wore it!
I am so excited that Madelyn will be able to wear it as well!

Precious, little shoes

Blankies

More blankies

This little cat is very sentimental to me.  It was one of the last gifts my grandmother gave to me before she passed away, 22 years ago.  I think it is just perfect in Madelyn's nursery!

Look at this soft little guy!

19 weeks

July 10, 2012
how far along? 19 weeks
Madelyn’s size: around 6 inches, 8.5 ounces… about the size of a mango
weight gain: one pound this week, 11 pounds total
maternity clothes: Yes, they came in Monday!  It feels so good to wear comfy clothes!
stretch marks: None
sleep: It's getting harder and harder to get and stay comfortable, and I'm getting up to pee at least once almost every night.
best moment this week: David feeling Madelyn for the first time!
On July 4th, David and I were lying in the bed, about to go to sleep, and Miss Madelyn was moving a bunch.  I decided to lightly place my hand where I was feeling the movement, to see if I could feel it on the outside...and sure enough, I could!  I whispered to David to gently place his hand on my tummy, and he was able to feel her, several times!  I was so excited, my heart was pounding!
food cravings: Nothing in particular
symptoms:  Still feeling fatigued a lot, but significantly less than before.  At least it's not every single day now!  Mood swings.  I can literally be crying one moment and laughing a few moments later.  It is ridiculous!
gender: Precious, baby girl!
belly button in or out: In
movement: Yes!
what I miss:  Sleeping comfortably through the night.
what I'm looking forward to: Seeing Madelyn again this week, and feeling her move more!

Prenatal workout DVDs

About a month ago, I convinced David to purchase some prenatal workout DVDs for me.  At the time, I was dealing with major fatigue, so it has taken me a while to regain my energy enough to actually put them to use.  At the suggestion of my friend, Myrrh, I have decided to review these DVDs. :)

Body by Trimester
This is a 3 DVD set, and as you could have guessed, is broken down by trimester.  Each DVD has a warm-up segment, 2 full 30 minute workouts, and an express 15 minute workout.  You can also choose to do the abs only segment. The workouts themselves are challenging, but not too challenging.  You definitely feel like you are working, but not to the point where it is too difficult or you get discouraged.  Joy is just that...a joy!  She is perky and encouraging (but not in an obnoxious way).  She just has a really great energy that makes you want to get up and workout!  I really enjoy these DVDs, and I am even considering buying her postnatal workout to help me get back in shape after Madelyn arrives.

Perfect Pregnancy Workout Vol.1
This 43 minute video is broken down into a 5 minute warm-up, a 33 minute workout, and a 5 minute cool down.  It is a great workout, and in my opinion, the most challenging of all of the DVDs that I bought.  You are definitely going to feel more toned once you have finished.  I like that all of the exercises have an Advanced and Beginner option, and some have an Intermediate option too.  Some exercises I was able to do Advanced, while others I could only do Beginner.  It was really nice to be able to choose which was right for my own personal, fitness/comfort level.  This is actually my least favorite of all of the DVDs.  One big drawback is that Karyne looks like she's enjoying the workout a little too much...if you know what I mean!  All joking aside, it is a little on the boring side.  Boring or not, it will leave you feeling fitter, and that's really what is important.

Long & Lean Prenatal Workout
I'll be honest, I thought this would be my least favorite of all of the DVDs.  With it's basis in yoga and pilates, I expected it to be boring and too easy...boy was I wrong!  Within a few minutes, I was starting to sweat and feeling the burn!  The standing and floor segments were very challenging; I really felt like I was getting an awesome workout!  After working my muscles, I absolutely LOVED the stretch segment...probably the best stretches I've ever done in my life.  Then comes my favorite part, the relaxation segment.  After working so hard and having such an amazing stretch, you REALLY feel relaxed as you sit and breath and listen to the music. I don't think I've ever felt so relaxed in my life!  I'm a little embarrassed to say, but during the relaxation portion, I felt so overcome with this peaceful feeling that I cried a little...it was just this totally amazing emotional release!  I seriously want to do this workout every day as a stress reliever!  Needless to say, this was my absolute favorite of all of the DVDs!

All in all, I think these are all great prenatal workout DVDs.  I think they can all help moms-to-be maintain their physique and fitness level during their pregnancies!

18 weeks

July 3, 2012

how far along: 18 weeks
Madelyn’s size: Around 5.6 inches, 6.7 ounces… about the size of a sweet potato
weight gain: About 2 pounds this week, about 10 pounds total (Funny thing, after a couple of weeks with no weight gain, I was growing concerned that maybe Madelyn wasn't growing enough...but then I compared last week's picture with one from a few weeks before, and the difference was pretty remarkable...it is clear that my belly and Madelyn are growing just fine, even if the scale wasn't showing it)
maternity clothes: Finally ordered some...should be here sometime late next week!
stretch marks: None yet
sleep: Still having to reposition myself more throughout the night, and also having to get up to tinkle more often during the night.
best moment this week: For sure feeling Madelyn moving!
food cravings: None really
symptoms: Maybe a little more emotional than normal, but I don't think that's solely due to the pregnancy.  On a good note, I'm continuing to get my energy back, which is fantastic!
gender: Girl!
belly button in or out: In
movement: Yes!  I first thought I might have started feeling her around June 23rd, but it was so faint I wasn't sure.  Then, on June 28th, I felt her move for certain!  I am feeling her more and more frequently!  It's just tiny, sporadic "pops", similar to when a popcorn bag is almost finished popping in the microwave.  Whenever I feel her, I'll tell David she's "poppin'" or sometimes, I'll just say, "Pop...pop". :)
what I miss: Nothing
what I'm looking forward to: Feeling Madelyn move more, as she continues to grow and become stronger.  Seeing her again on the ultrasound next week!
